EARLY CHILDHOOD

Preschool and kindergarten experiences shape how a child will come to view his or her education. In a Montessori Primary classroom, children engage in hands-on learning through materials that build one skill at a time until - without stress or pressure - the child has mastered a complex operation like cursive writing, basic mathematics, and phonetic reading.

“Our care of the child should be governed, not by the desire to make him learn things, but by the endeavor always to keep burning within him that light which is called intelligence.”

-Maria Montessori

Our Primary classroom encouranges the students to work in a self-directed manner through a combination of whole-group circle time, small group or individual teacher-guided lessons, and collaborative and solo opportunities to practice academic skills, prepare and serve food, listen to music, and read. But behind these expressions of the joy of learning are experienced Montessori teachers who keep track of each child’s learning trajectory, helping each child to master age-appropriate skills and opening new vistas when appropriate.
